Riley is 3. He turns 4 in a few weeks time. In almost everyway he is a typical 3 almost 4 year old. Since losing his sister 6 months ago ive seen glimpses of the man he will become. He has shown understanding beyond his years and im so proud to be his mummy.
At Amys funeral, he sat on my knee quietly throughout the entire service. The rest of the day he wasnt far from my side. In his own little way he was trying to comfort me. In the days after the funeral he spoke of Amy often. One conversation we had was "wheres Amy gone?" I said "she is an angel now, in Heaven". Riley said "with ho ho?" Ho Ho is what he called Santa. He had worked this out for himself. Listening during the service he must have worked out that Amy was now in a very safe & happy place and for him Ho Ho is all about happiness too (presents, Christmas). Ive left it at that for now. As he gets older he will ask more and he will be able to understand at a deeper level.
